Which is more advanced--bookkeeping or accounting.? Why?

Accounting is more advanced than bookkeeping. Bookkeepers enter data into the company's books, but the accountant is the one who does more of the financial analysis.

Bookkeepers do accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, payroll taxes, sales taxes, etc. Accoutants do financial statements, audits, and end of the year taxes. An accountant is the one you would go to with financial and tax questions. And of course, they will charge a lot more for their time than a bookkeeper.

To become a bookkeeper you would need to take some accounting courses or get some on the job training.

Accountant's usually have a four or five year degree. CPA's have to complete their degree and work under a CPA for a couple years then pass the CPA exam to become certified.

they are similar but different, a book keeper does payables/receivables/payroll etc while an accountant typically does more of the regulated items, such as taxes and depreciation schedules. i am a book keeper but i have an accountant to do the serious stuff like our year end taxes

Accounting is more advanced than book keeping. Accounting involves all financial aspects of a business and requires schooling. Bookkeeping is just that, keeping the books. It can be as simple as balancing a check book and only requires training by the company you will be working for.

Bookkeeping can be done without a degree, but an accountants need degree, huge difference.

Speaking as someone who teaches accounting, this is a pretty common question because many people think the words are pretty much interchangeable.

Accounting is comprised of many different functions, with bookkeeping being just one of them. The main responsibility of a Bookkeeper is to record various transactions onto the books. And so the answer to your question is that accounting is the more advanced because it consists of several things on top of bookkeeping.
