What is the next step in education? |
I have been out of school for 10 years, and want to further my education. I have a h.s. diploma. Looking to go for accounting or psychology. Any tips? Where should I start? Going back to school gives you an advantage over most students, in that you actually want to be there and you know why. You may have to take the SATs, but it is possible that you don't. Everything you have done in the last 10 years has given you skills above the other applicants. Think about your jobs, you life and your experiences, and sit down with an application. Just get over your nerves, apply, and do it. If you're not sure of what is required, call you state university's advisement office and ask them. Returning students generally do much better than continuing students because they are more motivated. So good luck, you can do this!! Community College to begin with - Cheap, easy, not very time consuming, and you can determine your commitment towards an education. After that you can go back to your old life or an institution of higher education (university.) I would recommend you start by attending a Community College. Make an appointment with a counselor in order to get information of how to enroll, what tests you must pass, your degree plan, etc. Regarding which career path to take, you might want to search the Occupational Job Outlook; it gives you a brief description of various careers. |
