Can I make it at a Big 4 accounting firm? |
I am a sophomore in college and I have a 4.0 GPA. I plan to keep my GPA atleast at a 3.9. My problem is that I do not go to a target school for big 4 recruiters, only Deloitte and Touche have been to my school. I am an SGA off campus senator and a tutor for math and accouting. I will be doing an internship this summer with a nonprofit organization in information tecnology services or accounting. I think they want to see a good GPA and some extra curricular activities. They also look to hire people that will "fit" the profile of their firm. Personally, I interviewed with all of the Big 5 (at the time) firms and had a second interview with Deliotte and I'm so glad I didn't get the job. I think smaller firms are better. first of all, what is your major? if it is something like accounting, business, or finance or something, you're in good shape. if you studied something like psych, physics, or history, you may be in trouble. You'll proably have to start out in a smaller Accounting firm and move up the after some experience. Don't worry your gpa is stellar ,so after you gain on the job experience you'll get into a BIG company. You're in good shape academic wise. Hopefully your school is legit and they have relationships with the firms. If so, you shouldn't have any issue getting into a top firm. I know accounting majors who had terrible grades but they still got into the big names -- but this is because the schools they attended had strong ties (not Ivy leagues nor even top 50, but good top level state institutions). One thing though, don't expect to get paid much money at first and they'll work you to death, 6 days a week, so it's not really as rosey as you might think. |
