Advetanges workign in a small or midsize accounting firm?

What are the advantages in working for a mid size or a small accounting firm as oppose to a big firms like KPMG, PwC etc.? Thank you

The biggest advantage for me is I don't work in tax or audit, I work in tax AND audit. My wife worked for Deloitte &Touche as an intern and then two years after. She started in the tax department doing 1040's and some estate returns.

She was doing estate returns so well, she ended up doing estate returns almost exclusively. She was good at it, but they kind of pigeon holed her. She was getting bored with doing one kind of return.

I work for a small firm. I do tax and audit. I do 1040's, 990's, 1065's, 1120's, etc. I go to clients and do audits and reviews. I help some with their QuickBooks problems. In other words, I get to do many things. Now, I probably will never know trust returns like my wife did, but I don't get bored, doing the same type of return day in and day out. I get a variety of work, and I like that.
