Accounting jobs?

Does anyone know the different types of accounting jobs out there, and how much they pay? I am planning on going into the Accounting field, i am in highschool currently taking Accounting 1. I want an accounting job that would pay in 6-digit numbers as fast as possible after graduating college with a masters... any help or advice you can give me?

Lots of factors go into this questions. I spealized in accounting and finance recruitment for years and could make this a very long winded answer, but I'm going to keep short.

The highest paid accounting jobs that don't require 10+ years of experience are auditing positions. Especially those involved in Sarbanes Oxley also referred to as SOX. For these roles you will need to obtain your CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and a CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) would be good as well. For the CPA you will need to obtain your masters or 150 credit hours which most accounting undergrades get because it is only 1 additional year of schooling.

Auditors have high burnout rates (meaning they get sick of the job fast) because they do a lot of traveling and everything that they do is associated with billable hours for the public accounting firm that they are working for.

Many accountants have gone independent (started their own business) after 5-7 years of solid public accounting experience and have been extremely successful as far as income is concerned. Some auditors have found it easy after 5+ years to transition into accounting manager roles at corporations which will typically offer a better lifestyle, but not a subtantial pay increase at that point in your career.

The top end job for accountants which many aspire to be is CFOs (Cheif Financial Officers). You will not get their with out years of experience.

In accounting the amount of work you put in is pretty equivalent to what you get out of it. Work hard, earn money, and have no time to spend it...

I started College at a prestigous university with the full intentions of graduating in accounting. I got accepted in to the business school, accepted into the accounting program, took 5+ accounting courses and then quickly switched degrees. I learned it was not for me- you need to be comfortable with literally crunching number for 10 hours a day. Easier said then done...

I took 2 accounting courses in High School to prepare myself it defintely gave me an advantage over other students, but only for a month. You will cover you 1st accounting course that you're taking now in about 1-2 chapters in College.

thanks Report It
