Big 4 Accounting Jobs...?

.When is optimal time to start applying for entry-level jobs? Also, I am a finance major, would that affect my getting hired with kpmg... Most of the classes I have taken relate to finance and the only classes i've taken relating to accounting are accounting 1 and 2....Is this a problem...???

The Big 4 don't generally hire auditors unless they have an Accounting degree. After you've got your Finance degree and some experience under your belt, you might apply to the Big 4 as a finance specialist where you could do consulting work on their audits...but you don't have enough accounting to be hired as an auditor.

If you're a finance major, you're better off pursuing a career in the insurance industry, securities markets, banking...you know, industries that deal with long-term debt and long-term equity.

Alternatively, if you have your heart set on the Big 4, you could change your major to Accounting, minor in Finance, and follow the path of many others. BEWARE: you will be asked what kind of grades you got in intermediate accounting. Trust me.

The Big 4 will only hire accounting graduates for Audit and Tax positions. Your Finance degree will go nowhere in the public accounting world. You may be able to get an entry level consulting or advisory service position with an accounting firm with a finance degree, but those jobs are not as plentiful as entry level audit and tax positions. If you want to work in public accounting, change your major to accounting.

what do you plan to do with KPMG? Most of the time, they recruit the top students in the accounting programs before they even graduate (most are offered internships during the summer before their senior years.. depending on how they do determines if they get an offer).
