CHEMISTRY-How does the kinetic-molecular theory account for gas pressure?

CHEMISTRY-How does the kinetic-molecular theory account for gas pressure?

The theory states that gases are composed of small particles in constant motion. The more kinetic energy they have the faster they move. The faster they move the more often they will strike the surface of the container. Pressure is a force applied to a surface. Therefore, the more particles that strike the surface, the more force is applied, equaling more pressure.

Constant movement of the electrons

Easy - think about it in everyday terms. Tire pressure. Air is put in a tire. If it is hot out - the PSI (pounds per square inch) of the gas in the tire might be at 40. If the temp now drops to minus 40 (as it does up here in Fairbanks), the PSI might drop to say 28. Same amount of gas in the tire, but differing amounts of pressure. This is all due to the Kinetic Energy of the gas. The molecules are fired up so to speak (more kinetic energy) when it is warm and calm down in cooler temps (less kinetic energy). Pretty neat.
In fact up here in fairbanks - some goofs might pump their tire up to full when it is -25 out - well when it warms up to 0 degrees or so - the tires burst. The amount of air in the tire didn't change - the amount of pressure in the tires changed.
