What is the basic military training like? |
I'm an accounting graduate and I would like to work for the Military as an accountant. Will I have to go through basic training? I don't excersice or am very strong, will I make it through basics? Yes you can. Since you have a 4 year degree, you can go in as an officer. So you don't have to go through the regular basic training. You go through OCS, which is tougher, but a lot different. You will need to begin working out. It is nothing impossible or even that hard. You can get in shape in a few short months. Odds are, once you begin working out you will love it and it will chance your life. Not wanting to exercise is a terrible reason to not join the military. Let a military recruiter talk to you in the branch of service you wish to join. Age plays a factor and, if you are in the US., you HAVE TO BE combat ready--able to fight---regardless what job you'd like to do. I'm not trying to discourage you, but you don't always get that privledge in the military either. You cn tell them what you'd like to do, but in the end you do WHAT THEY WANT. A lot of office work is now done by outside contractors so you might want to look at that as an option Hell my toughest times in boot camp were those moments when I didn't bite my tongue hard enough, thus releasing copious amounts of laughter to erupt into my company commander's face. I did alot of pushups for that. This is my weapon this is my gun - you all know the rest of the saying. First understand, it's nothing but time. A drill sergeant will get in your face once or twice, but it's nothing, just words and push-ups. What can that really do to you but make you stronger? If you just take things as it is, it really is nothing but a ten week paid vacation. Second, since you have a degree, you can look into becoming an officer. If you have a master's degree, you can get a direct commission, which is a beautiful thing. Other than that, a lot of the military's support paperwork is done by contractors who make a lot more than us soldiers. So you have your options, but whatever you do, be sure to do your part like everyone else. Go to http://www.strategypage.com....I had a blast. Just start with a few pushups a day and walk when you can and build up speed, that 1 mile run is hard if you have not been practicing. You will learn military speak and all that good stuff and I am a girl! As a college graduate you are looking at OCS and you will have to pass fitness. Get a trainer and get that part together so you can focus on the LEADERSHIP training that you will receive. Everyone who enters the military goes through boot camp. It's no picnic, but many weaklings have gone through it. I'm going to side-track a bit. All prior answers have joined in your own assumption that to "work for the Military" - in any capacity - involves enlisting, BMT, etc. HOWEVER,I am sure that you can become employed by the D.O.A. as a civilian accountant and avoid the military part of it if you want to. Everyone goes thru basic training, if you loin, whether you exercised before you left for basic or not. If you don't make it thru basic, they will recycle you thru basic again. You learn to eat in two minutes. How to fold cloths military style, how to get up at 0400 in the morning and how to stay awake (you stand up) in classes. How to clean your weapon and throw a gernade, how to run everywhere you go. How to get along or not, with other people and try to work as a team or with a buddy. You must go with your buddy everywhere. How to carry a cantene with you everywhere. How to ruck with your equipment. I learned how to put all my issued equipment in a small ruck and I thought it would never fit. I had to shove it in and stand on it and kick it in until the equipment went in. You get to go camping with your group for a week. You learn first aid ect. much like taking it up the *** from a knife and being forced to smile EVERYONE has to go through boot camp. Try the Air Force not as tough physcially. Toughest physcially & Mission by branch. |
