Can they bill me after I'm gone?

I had 2 days off last week which were taken after I turned in my payroll sheet. Some how they payed me for those two days still. I don't think they will ever realize they're mistake. I'm getting laid off around August 31st which is 2 weeks. If they realize their mistake after I'm laid off can they bill me or hold me liable for not saying nothing even though it's their mistake?

By the way it was Payroll's idea for me to take the 2 days off. Some policy they have at work. So you'd think they would realize that I turned in the time card already...or at elast remind themselves to look at it if I didn't turn it in yet. But I still got paid for it. Should I say something or no?

O yes. I worked for a company that paid every two weeks. They let me go in the middle of the second week but paid me for the whole week. they found the error 31/2 months later & sent me a bill for over payment. They gave me 60 days to repay or go to court. The amount was $244 for two days work. I payed.

If your check is direct deposited they can take the money back from your account. This happened in an overpayment accounting mistake to me once before.

Ahh, I just tell them that you never looked at your pay stub and deposited the money / cashed the check.

I dont think you can be held liable, once you resign from the post.

If they catch it they will deduct the overpayment from your last check.

But if they find out after the fact then I think you're good.

Well once you have deposited the check it will be too late in most instances if the amount isn't too big most companies will not go after it because it costs more to retrieve than what it's worth. Legally the probably can come afer you for it since it's pay for somethng you didn't do. But you may want to ask someone who deals with the legalities of business.
