How much may be the number of payrollists needed to run an automated payroll processing in a company having around 3000 employees?

With 3,000 employees, your company definitely need an automated payroll processing system.

Even with 10 payroll reports and 100 employees, I believe that an automated payroll processing system is needed.

Happy Holidays !

The number of people required to run the system depends on how complex your payroll situation is.

I work in payroll for a large company. At one point, I was processing a district with 3400 employees by myself on a weekly basis with no problems. There is another district with about the same number of employees but a much more complicated union contract that takes 7 people to process each week.

It may take a while but you will need to know exactly what processes need to be done weekly. There's more to it than just getting the paychecks out the door. There's taxes, expensing, vacation time accrual, etc. Document your rules and processes thoroughly and make sure you have backup people trained to cover for illnesses and vacations if you use a small payroll staff.
