What are the leading payroll (wage calculating) types of software?

I am doing a business studies project and just wondered the what are the variations in well-known payroll calculating software? As well as what are the benefits and drawbacks of each type of software. Any input would be gratefully received. Thank You

as previous, sage and moneysoft, latter is cheaper.

I've been to many companies and the most common payroll software they are using is microsoft excel. All you have to do is to create your program. Just use the cells to make your calculations. In just a matter of minutes you can make you own one. In fact, in my personal business nowadays, i am using only microsoft excel because its very flexible. You can do anything you like to create. Other payroll program is fixed and not easily to handle and its not flexible enough to fit your own business.. I guess you try creating one for your study.

Most companies use either Lawson, PeopleSoft, SAP or Quickbooks if they are really small. Some also use ADP Enterprise software to compute their paychecks, I believe it has a peopelsoft like engine. There is also Ceridian and Paychex.

Most of these are considered Enterprise Software and span multiple services such a Manufacturing and Finance and are integrated.

The payroll software that I prefer most is Payroll Mate from Real Business Solutions

for many reasons: it is very easy to use, calculates all 50 states accurately, comes with free technical support, very affordable ($99).

There is also a free demo available for download:
