Why does my payroll check say tax block in the federal withheld section? |
I have filled out another W-4 form to correct the problem. It still says "TAX BLOCKED". My managers don't know (neither does payroll). Any ideas why? Thank you! Tax Blocked means somewhere along the way, your payroll was coded to be exempt from federal withholding. You need to correct this, otherwise you will be underwithheld for federal tax and not only will you owe when you file your return, but you will also be subject to underpayment penalties. More than likely you owe the IRS Money, they can withold earnings from your checks, if the past due amount hasn't been paid. Sounds like at some point, you either elected to claim exempt on your W4, or your payroll department keyed that information into their system. What payroll software does your company use? |
